Kid-Friendly Websites About the Solar System: 

a.     This is NASA’s kid-friendly solar system website to promote students to explore their universe and beyond. Interactive games and videos are used to help students better understand the solar system.
2.     Kids Astronomy
a.     Kid astronomy is a good resource for kids to become acquainted with each of the planets and their moons. Additionally, videos and demonstrations help the students to get a better idea of how the solar system works.
3.     Planets for Kids
a.     This website offers kids a wide range of information regarding the planets, asteroids, and other pertinent space information. My favorite thing about this website is the solar system song that names the planets (in order from the sun) and shares important information about the planets.
4.     Explore Astronomy
a.     This website from the American Museum of Natural History provides students with hands-on learning about the solar system. This website also proves an English and Language Arts connection to the solar system.
a.     On this website there are a variety of different instructional strategies used to teach children about the solar system.

1.     The Long View into Space by Semour Simon – An illustrated discussion of the planets and bodies such as moons, comets, and meteoroids found in our solar system. Also outlines the relationship the solar system has with the galaxies.
2.     Close Encounters: Exploring the Universe with the Hubble Space Telescope by Elaine Scott – Describes what scientists have been able to deduce about the nature of our solar system and the universe based on data collected by the Hubble telescope.
3.     The Moon by Seymour Siman – A basic introduction to Earth's closest neighbor, its composition, and man's missions to it. Illustrated with black and white photographs of the moon taken in space
4.     The Day We Saw the Sun Come Up by Alice E. Goudey – A little girl and boy observe and learn about the movements of the sun, moon, and shadows throughout the day and part of the night.
5.     One Giant Leap – Commemorating the 40th anniversary of man's first walk on the moon, this book is a tribute that transports readers to the stars, where they will experience the moon landing just as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin did.

Fiction
6.     And if the Moon Could Talk by Kate Banks – As a little girl goes to bed, the moon looks down at nature going to bed as well. 
7.     Why the Sun and the Moon Live in the Sky: An African Folktale – Sun invites Water to his home, but Water has so many people that Sun and Moon must leave their house to fit them all.
8.     The Moon Over Star by Dianna Aston – On her family’s farm in the town of Star, eight-year-old Mae eagerly follows the progress of the 1969 Apollo 11 flight and moon landing and dreams that she might one day be an astronaut, too.
