This a picture of the moon at 5:45 AM on Wednesday (9/12/13). Around 23% of the moon is illuminated this morning, meaning we are very close to the new moon. Due to the small size of the moon I had to walk around seventy-five feet from the front door of my house. The moon is the crescent shape in the middle of the photograph.

Monday, September 10
After figuring out the zoom feature on my iPhone I was finally able to snap a picture of the moon. In this photograph the moon is around 31.4% illuminated. This picture was taken around 6:15 AM Tuesday (9/11/12) morning in my neighborhood. I walked seventy-five feet in order to find the moon this morning. It is obvious by the moon's illumination that we are approaching a new moon in a number of days. The moon is beginning to appear as it did before the last full moon.
The moon is the crescent in the center of the picture, and not the white blur of light.

Sunday, September 9
My drawing of the moon illustrates how the moon looked from the Snoozy's UAB parking lot at 6:15 AM Monday (9/10/12) morning facing away from Mervyn Sterne. Due to "crazy" rise and set times and the decreasing illumination it is becoming more difficult to find the moon in the horizon. Today the moon is at 41% visibility. It is interesting to see the patterns with the moon phase time.

Saturday, September 8
My drawing depicts the appearance of the moon at 6:00 AM Sunday (9/9/12) morning. The illuminated portion of the moon continues to become smaller with each passing day. In order to find the moon I had to walk 50 feet from my house. This morning the moon appeared to be 51% illuminated, as today is the third quarter moon. The third quarter of the moon began at 8:16AM.

Friday, September 7
My illustrations depicts the appearance of the moon at 6:00 AM Saturday (9/8/12) morning. In order to see the moon I had to walk about fifty feet in front of my house early Sunday morning. The moon did not rise until after 11:20 PM Saturday night. It appears as if the moon is "shrinking," the illuminated portion of the moon is growing smaller and smaller. This morning the moon was around 60% visible.

Thursday, September 6
This is a drawing of the moon's appearance in my neighborhood around 5:45 AM September 7. Thursday's moon did not rise until 10:36 PM and its meridian passing time was at 4:58 AM Friday morning. The moon will not set until 12:47 PM Friday afternoon, with its current schedule it is impossible to see the moon before the "wee hours" of the morning. In order to find the moon this morning (September 7) I had to walk down my driveway and into the street, about 50 feet from my house. As you can tell around 70% of the moon remains illuminated from Saturday, September 1.

Wednesday, September 5
This picture of Wednesday's (September 5) moon was taken at 5:45 AM Thursday morning from Snoozy's UAB parking lot. The moon did not rise until 10:00 PM Wednesday and it will not set until 12:04 PM Thursday. The meridian passing time for Wednesday's moon was at 4:11 AM Thursday morning. With the moon not rising until the late hours of the night it is impossible to see the moon until early the next day. The moon appeared significant smaller at 78.4% visibility than it has looked all week, even if it is hard to tell from the photograph. Clear skies this morning made it easier to take a picture of the moon with my iPhone.
